5 Ways We’re Planning For COVID During Snow Season
As Level Green Landscaping switches from mowing and weeding to clearing snow and de-icing pavement, Covid-19 cases continue to rise.
That means the safety precautions we’ve taken since the beginning of the pandemic are still in full swing, with extra measures for snow season.
“We take this very seriously,” says Level Green Snow Manager Greg Stacho. “Customers might not notice anything different, but we’re continuing to follow the rigorous precautions that we’ve followed all along.”
Here’s a look behind the scenes at our Covid precautions for snow season:
1. Frequent Disinfecting
Supervisors report to work early each day to thoroughly disinfect their trucks, wiping down door handles, seatbelts, steering wheels, consoles, and the plastic sheeting that divides the front part of the truck cab from the back to provide separation between drivers and passengers.
At the end of each day, they disinfect the handles of each piece of equipment, using a mixture of bleach and water or disinfectant spray and paper towels.
2. Fewer People Riding Together
Crew members don’t pile into trucks to head to job sites the way they used to, Stacho says.
Level Green purchased more vehicles so fewer passengers ride in trucks and cars together.
Some crew members “direct report,” to job sites, providing their own transportation.
3. Virtual Meetings
The annual subcontractors meeting that kicks off the snow season usually involves more than 30 people gathered together at Level Green to learn about safety procedures and equipment.
This year, the meeting is virtual to keep everybody safe.
4. More Equipment, Fewer People
Snow crews will be using more equipment and fewer people to get snow cleared, which is both efficient and means fewer crew members together on a site, Stacho says.
“One snowblower can do the work of four crew members hand shoveling,” he says.
5. Staying Updated
Brad Butler, manager of corporate safety at Level Green, keeps track of the daily COVID-19 memos and updates from the Centers for Disease Control, as well as from the state of Maryland, so he can share the latest information.
